What a great GB Alpine Championships!

One of the highlights of the race calendar for GB alpine skiers is the end-of-season GB Alpine Championships, held this 2023/4 season in Tignes and Val-d'Isère, France.

It’s a showcase for GB racers in all age groups, a chance to perform well and test ourselves against competition from home and abroad.

My 2024 campaign began on March 24 and 25 with the FIS British National and National Junior Slalom races in Tignes. It was then on to Val-d'Isère to compete on March 26 and 27 in the FIS British National and National Junior Giant Slalom.

It was a challenging week with heavy snow, but I was pleased to find my form and deliver consistent performances. It’s not easy to jump up to compete against senior racers, but my results give me confidence that I’m closing the gap. 

Racing in the GB nationals against several World Cup and Europa Cup skiers was awesome. The Giant Slalom lineup even included well-known international stars from World Cup racing on TV, such as France’s Clara Direz and Romane Miradoli!

I was delighted to finish the week by topping the standings and making it to the combined podium presentations.

It was a proud moment to secure the Overall Lillywhite Gretton Trophy (pictured above), the Girls’ National Junior Championships (Snowsport Scotland Trophy), the Women’s National U18s (Ingham’s HotelPlan Trophy), and the British non-team Ladies’ Ski Club Challenge Cup

Evie Pinching was an amazing GB downhill and combined skier and Olympian in the 1930s, so it was special to receive this award.

Congratulations to the British skiers who took part and achieved their personal goals, and a special mention to Leo Karavasili and Freddy Carrick-Smith for securing the Junior overall titles.
